‘Do not leave school because of poverty’
The Chilomoni Foundation for Education and Development (Cfed) has appealed to the public to work together in supporting less privileged children so they do not leave school because of poverty.
Cfed president Albert Sharra said this on Friday in Blantyre during a three-day camp for 52 girls from eight schools in Chilomoni and surrounding areas. The girls were mentored, empowered and motivated to always aim high.

He said: “Young people in the country, particularly girls, face a lot of challenges such as poverty, which forces them into early marriages. We would like more organisations to focus on helping needy children, considering various challenges they face to attain good education.”
One of the particiapants, Anne Nawita, thanked Cfed for its support.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank Cfed for making me who I am today. I am proud to be studying at one of the best information- technology colleges in the country. Without Cfed’s support, my dream could not be realised,” said the information technologystudent from St John Paul ll leadership college in Blantyre.
Also present was executive director for Women Coalition Against Cancer Moud Mwakasungula who advised the girls to refuse early marriages.
Founded in 2015, Cfed works with close to 300 young people in eight schools and it runs various projects such as Adopt a Child and Tiwerenge. n
